PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Athenian School seeks a Carter Innovation Studio (CIS) Manager to oversee the daily operations, safety, and learning environment of the school’s premier makerspace and innovation hub. The CIS Manager ensures that students, faculty, and staff can safely and creatively engage with a wide range of tools, technologies, and materials to bring ideas to life. This position plays a key role in fostering a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and collaboration that supports project-based learning across academic departments.
Working closely with the Director of the CIS and other school partners, the Manager develops and implements training, certification, and safety procedures; maintains tools and equipment; and supports curricular and co-curricular projects that utilize the studio. The role includes teaching safe usage and digital fabrication skills, mentoring student users and interns, and collaborating on interdisciplinary initiatives such as March Term, Focus Fridays, and summer programs. Strong candidates will bring enthusiasm for experiential learning and a commitment to helping students develop as creative problem-solvers and responsible makers.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will demonstrate cultural competency and the ability to build an inclusive and welcoming environment for a diverse community of learners. The position requires proficiency with fabrication tools, machinery, and digital design software, along with experience maintaining a safe and organized studio or lab environment.
Experience in maker education, fabrication labs, or project-based learning environments is highly desirable. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering, industrial design, architecture, or a related discipline is preferred. Candidates should have strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills and a passion for hands-on learning that connects creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation.
BENEFITS, COMPENSATION, PROFESSIONAL GROWTH & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. We seek candidates who can start July 1, 2026 or sooner, and t he annual full time salary basis for this role will range from $75,000 - $95,000. Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center.
All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor. All employees participate in school wide professional development, and have the opportunity to pursue a range of additional professional growth opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.
